“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21)

Zigua of Tanzania

People all over Africa claim that they believe there is a “God” who is the creator of all things and who is all powerful. But Islam teaches that one cannot truly know God or have a relationship with Him. Animism, which includes the belief that spirits inhabit inanimate objects, often displays its practices in whatever religion an African takes on.

The Zigua (zee-goo-ah) of Tanzania are a rural, agricultural people of over a half a million who live in the northeastern part of Tanzania. They are predominately Muslims, and although they claim to know God, they have never truly yielded their lives to their Creator. Islam has grown in strength and has brought a lot of confusion and resistance to the spread of the gospel, thus forcing some missionary personnel to relocate away from the Zigua.

Pray

  • For Great Commission partners who are able to continue to work among the Zigua for now, but will be relocating soon.
  • That Zigua believers will be bold to share the gospel with their friends, family members and neighbors.
  • For children who have heard the gospel during English lessons and church-related activities. Pray that these spiritual seeds will be watered by others

Praise God for 18th—25th July 2021

Thank the Lord with the Herrons for the Week

We Praise God for:

  • For traveling grace for the Herrons during the past week as we:
    • Safely raveled in and around Jinja
  • We also praise God for continual good physical, emotional and spiritual health, and the adjustments to the lockdown during this week.
  • We thank the Lord for the ministry we are doing despite the second Lockdown in Uganda.
  • We praise God for the work that continue to be done on the island and the people who are coming to know Jesus.
  • We thank God for our Island ministry partners who work with us who serve the Peoples of the Islands of Lake Victoria.
  • We thank God for our new neighbors, Bob and Sally Berryhill, who will be serving with Uganda Baptist Seminary.
    •  As they travel safely to northern Uganda last week
  • We thank God for Jeremy safe travel home from South Korean and now being reunited with his family.
  • We thank God for the distribution of food on the island and the many people who were served and heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  •  We thank God for the people who accepted Christ as Lord and Savior as a result of the food distribution.
  • As we make plans for food distribution in Jinja through Acacia Community Church
  • Thank God for opportunities we have had to share the gospel this past week and for opportunities to teach God’s Word to spiritual hungry souls this past week.
  • We praise God for the continual improvement in George Smith’s medical condition as he is taking steps and is o soon be discharged from the hospital.

Pray for the Herron’s This Coming Week

26th July—02nd August 2021

  • Pray for our travel this week:
    • James’s travel around Jinja this week.
  • Pray for the people of Uganda who are affected by the increasing numbers of persons contracting and dying from COVID-19.
  • Pray for the Uganda as we are affected by the second lockdown and are unable to travel outside the districts where we live.
  • Pray that God will continue to provide the insight and spiritual wisdom we need in making wise ministry decisions as we consider ministering on the islands.
  • Pray all go well with the food distribution on the island this week
    •  That the Gospel of Christ be presented, and many make decisions to follow Jesus
    • Continue to pray for the many people of the islands who have been affected by the rising waters of Lake Victoria, and a second lockdown scheduled to last until late July.
  • Pray we have many opportunities to share Christ with many people this week.
    • Pray that many will come to Jesus, and we began to disciple them.
    • As we distribute the food we will share Jesus Christ, and the people would be receptive to the Gospel
  • Pray for our families in the USA
    • Our three sons and their families
    • Our five grandchildren
    • The Sutton Family
    • The Dempsey Family
    • Stribling/Herron Family
  • Our siblings and their families
  • Continue to pray for our co-worker George and Geraldine Smith as he is in rehabilitation facility in Louisiana.
