“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.” (James 4:10 NLT)

Pray for the Herero of Namibia

The Herero, who number over 250,000, mostly reside within Namibia’s borders. Angola and Botswana are also home to some members of this people group. A history of European colonial oppression, including genocide, still impacts the Herero people and has kept them resistant to Christianity. They have retained a strong cultural base that keeps them proudly united as a people group. The “Holy Fire” still spiritually captures most of the Herero in that it connects the living to the dead through the ancestors. The Herero are a strong, proud people who have yet to understand how desperate they are for salvation and all that it offers today and throughout eternity.

  • Ask God to humble the hearts and minds of the Herero so that they will be open to hear the good news of Jesus.
  • Pray that God will create in the Herero people a desire to leave the past behind and run towards the future God has prepared for them through Jesus Christ.
  • Ask God to quickly mature the new young adult Herero believers and burden their hearts for their own people to know Jesus.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

Pray for the Kwangali of Namibia

The Kwangali live along the Kavango River on the northern border of Namibia. They have a population of around 130,000. Although most Kwangali claim Christianity, they remain eager to please their traditional god, Nyambi. They have not yet understood that Jehovah God is a jealous God and demands their entire heart, soul, mind and strength.

    • Pray the Holy Spirit will show the Kwangali that He is the only true God and will empower them to completely renounce their ties to Nyambi, to witchcraft and to ancestor worship.
    • Ask God to choose, enable and protect Namibian men and women sharing the salvation of Jesus with the Kwangali.
    • Pray God will burden a neighboring people group to take the message of Jesus to the Kwangali.

Praise God for the Week 09th—22nd November 2020

Pray for the Fulanke of Mali

The Fulanke, also known as the Fula of Arbala, are one segment of a vast people know as Fulani. Fulani are typically nomadic herdsmen, but the Fulanke are unique in that they have intermarried with Malinké women and have settled as farmers. While they continue to be proud of their Fulani heritage, the Fulanke no longer speak any of the many dialects within the  Fulani languages. Instead, they speak a language of the area in which they live. Like their ancestors, the Fulanke say “to be Fulanke is to be Muslim.” However, they are steeped in animistic religious practices and live in fear of spirits.

  1. Ask the Lord to help the Fulanke understand the gospel clearly and recognize it is not something they simply add to their current practices.
  2. Pray that Scriptures in Maninka and Bambara (common languages in the area) will aid the Fulanke in their comprehension of who Jesus is. Pray they will understand that He alone is Savior.
  3. Ask the Holy Spirit to convict believers around the Fulanke to be bold witnesses to them.

Praise God for the Week 01st—08 November 2020

“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.”  (1 Timothy 1:15 NIV)

Pray for the Zande of South Sudan

Historically, the Zande are small scale farmers growing maize, peanuts, cassava and sweet potatoes. They have an estimated global population of 2.8 million, with roughly 860,000 in South Sudan. Christianity was introduced to the Zande during British rule in the 1800s, and Catholic and Protestant churches exist within this people group. However, most Zande practice witchcraft, an evil magic that is the cause of all unusual or terrible events and that is used to inflict harm on others.

Although the IMB is not working among the Zande, we recently discovered that several Great Commission Christian groups are engaged in evangelism, discipleship and leadership training among them. We are thankful for this work; however, there is still much more to be done. The greatest need is solid biblical discipleship.

  • Thank God for Christian groups working among the Zande. Pray for them as they share the gospel, teach believers and train pastors.
  • Pray against the lies of witchcraft and the strong hold it has on the Zande.
  • Pray for the Zande to come to understand what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ and to yield their allegiances to Him.

Praise God for the Week 26th October—01st November 2020
