“I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14-15 ESV)

Pray for the Yerwa Kanuri of Niger

There are over 170,000 Yerwa Kanuri living in Niger, out of almost 8 million in the world. The Kanuri are traditionally sheep and cattle herders who carry sticks to help guide their grazing animals or to chase them back home. The Kanuri are Muslims and wash their faces five times a day for ritualistic prayers. Because of this, their faces always look bright, and the name Kanuri was given to them as it combines two words meaning “stick” and “light.” The Kanuri do not know that there is a Good Shepherd who desires to lead them out of the darkness and into the light.

Prayer Requests

  • Pray the Yerwa Kanuri will come to know Jesus Christ as their Good Shepherd, who laid down His life for them and came that they may have abundant life.
  • Pray that the Yerwa Kanuri will hear the gospel proclaimed, and that they will no longer walk in darkness but will follow the Light of the World.
  • Pray the spiritual veil would be removed from their faces and they would behold the glory of the Lord.

Praise God for the Weeks 14th—20th September 2020

“The Lord does not delay His promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 HCSB)

The Antefasy, whose name means “those who live in the sands,” live in the southeastern coastal region of Madagascar. They number 177,000. The primary religion practiced by the Antefasy is African traditional religion. Many Antefasy claim to be Christians but do not truly understand the gospel, nor have they claimed freedom from the ways of their ancestors. They are a people open to Scripture and surprised by the true teachings found within.

Pray

  • Pray for Bible teachers to engage the Antefasy area and show them truth from God’s Word.

  • Pray for the revelation of biblical teachings that combat enslaving cultural beliefs

  • Pray for evangelical churches to be planted and thrive in this area.

Be still O (Konongo people) and know that Yahweh is God. He will be exalted among you. ... The earth is the Lord’s with its fullness; the world and the (Konongo) who dwell therein. ... Arise, God, judge the (Konongo), for you inherit all of the nations. (Psalm 46:10; 24:1; 82:8)

Pray for the Konongo of Tanzania

The Konongo of Tanzania, who number 138,000, live in western Tanzania. Little is known about the Konongo, except that they primarily practice African traditional religion. They are considered unreached with the gospel. The IMB still needs to research Konogo locations, culture and beliefs to determine the best ways to share the gospel with them.

    Pray

  • Even though we do not know much about the Konongo, God knows and loves them deeply. Pray they will come to know the love of the Savior God.
  • Pray for discernment and perseverance for missionary researchers who are attempting to learn more about the Konongo.
  • Pray the Konongo would yield their lives to their Creator and leave their allegiance to traditional religion.
