“The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem were going out to him, and they were baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.” (Mark 1:5 CSB)

Pray for the Bozo Tiemaxo of Mali

The Bozo Tiemaxo are migratory fisherman. One of the unique challenges of getting the gospel to the Bozo is that they are several distinct people groups (including the Tiemaxo) who speak four variations of their language. Some variations are not simply accent differences; instead, there is very little comprehension between groups. This makes it difficult to reach the Bozo Tiemaxo and other Bozo groups, as they need Scriptures in their individual languages. It is also difficult to share the good news with them and follow up or disciple them due to their nomadic nature.

Pray

    • Ask the Father to place believers along the Bozo Tiemaxo’s migratory routes, allowing them to hear and understand the gospel, confess their sins and be baptized in the rivers they traverse.
    • Ask God for audio Scriptures in these distinctly different languages.
    • Pray for the Lord to raise up a believer among the Bozo Tiemaxo who will be a bold witness and disciple maker.

Praise God for 15th—21st February 2021

“And He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God.” (Acts 17:26-27a)

Pray for the Sankaran of Guinea

The Sankaran are a distinct people of central Guinea that are part of the larger Malinke family. Most are subsistence farmers and herders. They have settled along the life-giving Niger River that starts in Guinea and meanders all through western Africa. They primarily practice a form of folk Islam that mixes Islamic beliefs with traditional African religion. The majority of Sankaran are attempting to appease the spirits as they seek blessing in their daily struggle for provision. These attempts lead to tiring efforts to keep the appearance of outer piety of a works-based religious system.

The Sankaran are at an interesting crossroads, as they are part of the predominantly Islamic peoples of Guinea but are also near the geographical border where Christianity has taken root in Guinea.

Pray

  • Pray that the Sankaran would genuinely seek after the Lord.
  • Pray for the translation of the Bible into Sankarankan (the language of the Sankaran), which should be finished soon. Ask God to use His Word to bring many to salvation.
  • In the same way that the Niger River brings life to the desert throughout western Africa, pray that the Sankaran would carry the life-giving gospel all over western Africa.

Praise God for 08th–14th February 2021

“In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” (2 Corinthians 4:4 ESV)

Pray for the Makhuwa Marrevone of Mozambique

The Makhuwa Marrevone are one of the majority Muslim people groups along the coast of Mozambique. Introduced to Islam over 1,000 years ago by Arab traders from the Gulf of Oman, their ethnographic center near the town of Angoche remained an obstinate Muslim sultanate centuries after the Portuguese colonized Mozambique.

Since the late 1990s, missionaries from various groups, including the IMB, have been sharing the gospel and planting churches in the Angoche area. IMB leadership praises God that there are now over 2,000 baptized believers among the Makhuwa Marravone! We need to keep praying for the gospel to spread and for healthy, multiplying churches to be planted among them.

Pray

    • Most Makhuwa Marrevone still follow Islam. Pray their minds and hearts will be opened to the truth of the gospel.
    • Pray that believers among the Makhuwa Marrevone will remain committed to Christ. Pray for strong, faithful leaders to rise up and lead the churches.
    • Pray that, just as the Makhuwa Marravone heard the gospel from a neighboring people group, they also will share their faith with other groups.

Praise God for 01st–07 January 2021
