Pray for the HIMA
Of Uganda
All the (Hima) will worship you, and will sing to you; they will sing to your name. Come, and see God’s deeds O (Hima) — awesome work on your behalf. He turned the sea into dry land. Rejoice in him for he rules by his might forever. His eyes watch you O (Hima people)! Don’t be rebellious and rise up against him. (Psalm 66:4-7)

The Hima of Uganda, also known as the Nyankore, number around 300,000. They are located in the southwestern corner of Uganda, bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Although there has been an evangelical presence among the Hima in Uganda, and there is written Scripture in their language, there are no missionaries specifically working to get the gospel to the Hima. There are less than 50 known believers among the Hima, and no known Hima churches.
  • Pray
    • for God to put it on the hearts of the Ugandan church to reach out to the Hima and bring the good news to them.
    • for the Holy Spirit to stir a desire among the Hima to know their Creator.
    • for the few known believers among the Hima to be strong in their faith, willing and bold to share with their families and friends.

Pray for the ANTESAKA
Of Madagascar
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.’” (John 8:12 NIV)
The Antesaka people live along a remote stretch of the eastern coast of Madagascar. They originated from Indonesia and intermarried with others from the Middle East, South and East Asia, and Europe. Antesaka villages lay beyond the reach of Madagascar’s broken roads and riverbanks — travel by water or foot is required.
Although many among the Antesaka attend church regularly and consider themselves Christians, they are deeply influenced by traditional African religions and animism, as well as neo-Pentecostalism and the prosperity gospel. Most of them are living in darkness and under pressure to remain in ancestral worship.
Pray
  • for Christ’s light to shine among the Antesaka people so they will no longer walk in darkness but in the hope that comes through Jesus Christ.
  • for the Spirit to work through local Christians and missionaries to reveal Christ clearly to the Antesaka people.
  • that the Antesaka will hear the truth of God’s Word and will be compelled to abandon everything for Him and His name’s sake.

Pray for the Bozo of Mali

2 He saw two boats at the edge of the lake; the fishermen had left them and were washing
their nets. 3 He got into one of the boats, which belonged to Simon, and asked him to put
out a little from the land. Then He sat down and was teaching the crowds from the boat.
(Luke 5:2-3 HCSB)

The Bozo are a nomadic group of fishermen. They travel searching for fish in order to both provide food for their families and to sell as a source of income. Due to their constant migration, many Bozo have little or no schooling, causing many to be illiterate and even more dependent on their way of life. We could learn a lot from these fishermen, by seeking out and going where the fish are as we “fish for men!” What a great day it would be if Bozo peoples would come to know Christ as their Savior and spread the good news as they travel all around.

Pray for the Bozo of Mali
  • for audio Scriptures to be developed for the Bozo.
  • for Christians to share the good news with Bozo men who are currently fishing in the capital city’s river, since there is unrest in the areas they normally travel. Ask God to soften fishermen’s hearts during this time when they are a little less migratory.
  • for God to use the Bozo to spread the good news to others.

IMB missionaries in Sub-Saharan Africa have a goal to engage 55 unengaged, unreached people groups by the year 2025.

Among these groups, which all number 100,000 people or more, there are few or no Christians or churches. The gospel will not spread among the groups naturally – outside help is needed. The IMB is calling on churches in the United States and around the world to pray for, and eventually to help engage, these 55 people groups.

The resources on this page will help you learn more about these people groups. Please pray for these groups using the prayer requests included on the resources and share the prayer requests with others. There are even special resources to help children learn about, and pray for, the unreached peoples of Africa.
