“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor ...” (Luke 4:18 ESV)

Pray for the Tswa of Zimbabwe

Most Tswa reside in a province in southern Mozambique called Inhambane. But in the past few decades many Tswa have been recruited to work in the mines of South Africa, and some have migrated across the border to eastern and southern Zimbabwe. There are three main Tswa groups— the Dzivi, the Hlengwe and the Mhandla —but all speak the Tswa language.

The Tswa primarily follow African traditional religion. Conversion to Christianity typically equates to cultural assimilation — people adopt the behaviors and traditions of Christianity but do not experience true heart change.

Pray

  1. Pray the Spirit will send laborers to share the gospel with the Tswa people.
  2. Pray they would have courage to handle the potential persecution from friends and family if they decide to follow Jesus.
  3. Pray for their physical needs, as most are likely struggling for daily necessities.

Praise God for 26th July August 01st 2021

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21)

Zigua of Tanzania

People all over Africa claim that they believe there is a “God” who is the creator of all things and who is all powerful. But Islam teaches that one cannot truly know God or have a relationship with Him. Animism, which includes the belief that spirits inhabit inanimate objects, often displays its practices in whatever religion an African takes on.

The Zigua (zee-goo-ah) of Tanzania are a rural, agricultural people of over a half a million who live in the northeastern part of Tanzania. They are predominately Muslims, and although they claim to know God, they have never truly yielded their lives to their Creator. Islam has grown in strength and has brought a lot of confusion and resistance to the spread of the gospel, thus forcing some missionary personnel to relocate away from the Zigua.

Pray

  • For Great Commission partners who are able to continue to work among the Zigua for now, but will be relocating soon.
  • That Zigua believers will be bold to share the gospel with their friends, family members and neighbors.
  • For children who have heard the gospel during English lessons and church-related activities. Pray that these spiritual seeds will be watered by others

Praise God for 18th—25th July 2021

Thank the Lord with the Herrons for the Week

    • Safely raveled in and around Jinja

  • We thank the Lord for the ministry we are doing despite the second Lockdown in Uganda.

  • We thank God for our Island ministry partners who work with us who serve the Peoples of the Islands of Lake Victoria.
  • We thank God for our new neighbors, Bob and Sally Berryhill, who will be serving with Uganda Baptist Seminary.
    •  As they travel safely to northern Uganda last week
  • We thank God for Jeremy safe travel home from South Korean and now being reunited with his family.
  • We thank God for the distribution of food on the island and the many people who were served and heard the gospel of Jesus Christ.
  •  We thank God for the people who accepted Christ as Lord and Savior as a result of the food distribution.
  • As we make plans for food distribution in Jinja through Acacia Community Church
  • Thank God for opportunities we have had to share the gospel this past week and for opportunities to teach God’s Word to spiritual hungry souls this past week.
  • We praise God for the continual improvement in George Smith’s medical condition as he is taking steps and is o soon be discharged from the hospital.

“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19 ESV)

Pray for the Wolof of Mauritania

The Wolof are a West African people mostly found in Senegal. However, over 230,000 Wolof live in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, a country on the northern border of Senegal. It is illegal to share the gospel openly in Mauritania. Evangelism is prohibited by law. The Wolof in Mauritania are considered inferior to the "white Arabs" who live among them.

 Pray

  1. For God to raise up Wolof believers in Senegal who are willing to live among the Wolof in Mauritania in hopes of sharing the gospel despite the law restrictions.
  2. That in a land that is a desert, both physically and spiritually, God would allow the Wolof to discover the water of life: Jesus.
  3. That God would allow those who are seeking Him to be bold despite the persecution and possible death they may face upon their acceptance of the gospel.

Praise God for 05th–11th July  2021

“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.” (Isaiah 9:2 NIV)

Pray for the West Marghi of Nigeria

The West Marghi number around 270,000, and 98 percent follow Islam. They are located in northeastern Nigeria in Borno, Adamawa and Gombe states. This area is home to the Boko Haram terrorist group, who have brought much destruction to the land of the West Marghi.  There are a few churches in the area, and they have been facing much persecution and loss of buildings, homes and personal property.

Pray

  • For peace to be restored to the villages and towns of the West Marghi. Ask that the Boko Haram group would come to know the True Light.
  • For those among the West Marghi who have lost homes, possessions and possibly family members during the continued terrorist threats in their area. Pray for opportunities for Christians to show Christ’s love in visible ways.
  • Pray for the few Christians living among the West Marghi to know the Lord deeply and to have His protection over their homes and families.

“It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees.” (Deuteronomy 17:19 NIV)

Pray for the Suba of Tanzania

Many Suba people claim Protestant Christianity, but it is a religion they practice, not a relationship with God. They are less than two percent evangelical, and there is no missionary activity among them.

Fishing and boat building are the traditional occupations of the Suba, who number approximately 226,000. They were also renowned hippo hunters before it was against the law to kill wild animals. Today farming is growing as an occupation, and cattle are kept mainly to provide for the payment of bride price.

Since the Suba language is very different from other languages in the area, it came to be considered inferior. In recent years the Suba have developed a strong interest in preserving their culture and language. A vital step in this direction was to make Suba a written language, along with providing written Scripture with the hope of strengthening the existing church. Today, various Bible translations are available to the Suba.

Pray

  1. For the Father to call out people to evangelize and disciple the Suba. Ask Him to give Suba who are evangelical believers the courage to reach out to their own people.
  2. For God to protect the few true believers among the Suba from false teachings.
  3. For God to use His Word, which is already available in a translation the Suba can understand, to draw many people closer to Himself.

Praise God for 16th May—27th June  2021
