James and Sonya Herron, IMB Missionaries
Uganda East Africa
Island Ministry team (Upper Buvuma Islands)
The vision of the International
Mission Board is to see a multitude from every language, people, tribe and
nation knowing and worshiping our Lord Jesus Christ
“For me to live is
Christ, and to die is gain.” (Philippians 1:21
HCSB)
Five reasons death is
gain:
1. Our spirit will be made
perfect. 22 Instead,
you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God (the heavenly
Jerusalem), to myriads of angels in festive gathering, 23 to the assembly of the
firstborn whose names have been written[j] in heaven, to God who is the Judge of all,
to the spirits of righteous people made perfect, (Hebrews 12:22-23)
2. We will be relieved of
the pain of this world. “24 ‘Father
Abraham!’ he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of
his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!’ 25 “‘Son,’[f] Abraham said, ‘remember that during your
life you received your good things, just as Lazarus received bad things, but
now he is comforted here, while you are in agony.” (Luke 16:24-25)
3. We will be given
profound rest in our soul. “9 When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under
the altar the people[o] slaughtered because of God’s word and the
testimony they had.[p] 10 They cried out with a loud voice: “Lord,[q] the One who is holy and true, how long
until You judge and avenge our blood from those who live on the earth?” 11 So a white robe was
given to each of them, and they were told to rest a little while longer until
the number would be completed of their fellow slaves and their brothers, who
were going to be killed just as they had been.” (Revelation 6:9-11)
4. We will experience a
deep at-homeness. “8 and we are confident and
satisfied to be out of the body and at home with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians
5:8)
5. We will be with Christ.
“21 For me,
living is Christ and dying is gain. 22 Now if I live on in the flesh, this means fruitful
work for me; and I don’t know which one I should choose.” (Philippians 1:21-22)
